Sweep and rinse routinely

Remove leaves, soil, and spills before they stain or support weeds. Use gentle cleaning methods first and test specialty cleaners in an inconspicuous area.

Protect the joints

Joint material helps lock pavers together. Refill eroded joints when needed and address ant activity, weeds, or concentrated runoff that repeatedly removes sand.

Watch edges and settlement

Loose edge restraints or a low spot can allow movement. Mark changes, determine whether water or base failure is involved, and repair the cause before resetting pavers.

Manage drainage

Keep drains and adjacent swales open. Downspouts should not discharge concentrated water across the patio or against foundations.

Watering rules, rebate programs, permit requirements, and product instructions can change. Confirm current requirements with the appropriate local agency or manufacturer.
